Don’t be TOO distracted by the politicians on every street corner and median... there could be something more exciting headed your way.

Sketchy situation for sure!

facw posted it here early this AM, too. I missed it then and ran across it a bit ago.
I suppose there wasn’t much sound, with the s now muffling the truck heading into the median, but it’s horrifying to see how late the guy figures out it’s coming...

“slow down and be aware of road conditions”. I went to Omaha a couple weeks ago, about 45 minutes on the interstate. It started to snow when we were there, much earlier than it was supposed to (thanks weather dude). We headed out and I was creeping down the interstate at 45. My wife, who usually tells me to slow down, saw all the cars flying by me and asked my why I was driving slow. “Pretty slick out here” I said. When she pressed me on it I said we were basically driving on ice. I swear about a third of the cars on the road must have been doing 70. My wife still was asking if I needed to drive that slowly, until we saw several cars in the ditch, most of the other drivers slowed down by that point too.
Jesus people, have some situational awareness.

I believe this is actually a problem getting worse, oddly, because of the advent of all the FWD and pretty good stability control systems. You (and the car) don’t really know you are “in trouble” until it’s way too late.
IN the old days, with RWD and no nannies, you developed a “feel” for conditions via a tap on the brakes or a little shimmy in the wheel... little clues that your traction was going. I think you actually get less warning these days with the automation.
Even here in CA, when they do get the long-delayed rainstorm, the roads are slicker than calf shit on a snotty doorknob— people are oblivious and you’ll have 50 slide-offs in minutes in a few miles of roadway. You have never seen hydroplaning like an LA freeway in the rain after a 10 month drought.
I can’t PROVE that the nannies are shielding peoples’ skills from the realities of traction loss ... but it’s interesting how many of these “waves of slide-offs” you see.
